I Should Have Known Better …

… than to let the kids define the term

PAJAMAS

because I’m a city geek, and I know first-hand that people always end up in left field without clear cut definitions to guide them.

That’s why our city had to define the term “household pet” after a resident tried to tell us that a pot belly pig was just fine to keep in the teensy tiny backyard of their townhouse.

So if registered voters can play fast and loose with definitions, TDHD will go nuts.

So tonight when I told the kids that they had two minutes to go downstairs and get their “PAJAMAS” on, I should have realized that I was opening the door for …

SAVANNAH

to come out looking like a high school volleyball player got mugged by the sock bin.  When I asked her about her inspiration for yet another outfit gem, she replied in baby talk that she was, “A Cheetah!!!”

I, uh, … I have no idea what that means.

And then

SEANRY

came upstairs wearing nothing but a diaper.  “No way,” I told him firmly.  “You march downstairs and get something to wear right now.  You can’t wear just a diaper to bed.”

(Did you catch that slipup? I used another undefined term: something.)

And so he came back upstairs a minute later wearing nothing but a diaper …

… and BiC pen.

Ah, see.  That’s totally different.  Carry on.

What’s the weirdest term your kids have defined on their own?

Or come to bed wearing?
