Thursday 11.10.11

Greetings this fine Thursday morning from

The Box Car Children

who rocked a box-heavy, ghetto-styled Halloween in the isles of Walmart.

For reals.

100_5328 You should know I  don’t kid about things like this.

The season started poorly when the boys decided not to wear the costumes I’d packed away from last year, and Savannah refused to wear the gorgeous, hand-made princess  dress-up dress that my friend made for her. Ugh.

Instead TDHD took Rock What Ya Got to it’s sad, shameful extreme.

The ugliest, stained, spilled on cardboard box yielded

Little Miss Mangled Monarch

100_5334

who migrated across the Layton super Walmart in Christmas tights, a Halloween tee, droopy antennae and giant wings attached with old nylons …

… and from …

Opie and Woohoo

100_5332

Who? Exactly.

My awesome kid was an amazingly good sport after spent hours building, painting and cutting several large boxes to look like his favorite train and conductor duo only to hear, “Hey there … Box Kid” 100 times that night …

… and from …

WALL*E

100_5331

who rolled waddled from isle to isle in search of EEEE-VAAAHHH and a boot with plant …

… and from …

Random Rocker Guy Kid

100_5333

who was looking for any excuse to spray his hair crazy colors and walk around singing Nickelback songs loudly into a dollar store microphone sticking poses like this. Kara in Fabrics seemed especially impressed  …

… and from …

Little Miss Piddle Tinkerbell

100_5341

who may have yelled loudly in Automotive that she needed to, PPPEEEEEEE! … and shouted in Cosmetics that she needed to go pee NNNOOOOOWWWW! … and who cried out Go Faster Momma! as I zoomed through check out … only to see her emerge from the bathrooms minutes later with a sad, mournful I PPPPEEEEED my tights Momma. I don’t want to be Tinkerbell … I want to be (Ra)’Punzel.

… and finally from …

I-So-Got-The-Shaft SEANRY

Seanry …?

Seanry …?

Oh there you are.

100_5330-1

the poor little kid who ended up without a costume thanks to a mom who insisted she’d saved the Bumblebee Transformers costume from last year … who didn’t actually try to find it and remember that it actually got taken to D.I. a year ago until it was almost time to leave … who tried to bribe Sean with some crazy hair and the promise to go buy a ridiculously full-priced costume at Walmart while he was trick-or-treating … who might have panicked when there wasn’t a single one left at the store … and who was equal parts grateful and heartbroken when Sean forgave her after she let him pick out the candy for the trick-or-treaters.

Total Mom FAIL.

Rest assured, there’s lots of overcompensating for the whole this-Halloween-I-sucked-as-a-mom planned for Thanksgiving and Christmas. I’ll be paper mâchéing a life-sized turkey and knitting 100% organic wool stockings for my children.

Now go enjoy your weekend!
