Last Little Bits of 2009

Because I’m so on top of things, I figured that mid-January would be a good time to post pictures from the kids’ Polar Express party and other random bits from December.

Polar Express Party

For the second year, we hosted a Polar Express party on December 23rd to let the kids have some last minute fun with friends and let their parents finish up any last minute Santa tasks.  This year was thankfully smaller with only 15 kids to keep a eye on.  This was oh so critical given that Peterson was at work and I was flying solo.  I also went for a morning slot which worked out better and let me spend the rest of the day reclaiming the house relaxing.

Yup.  That’s a seven year old shaking a giant can of glitter with reckless abandon in this picture.  Why?  Because I’m a risk taker with a stack of vacuum bags at my disposal.  That and I stupidly thought it would be no big deal to let the kids add a little sparkle to their jingle bell cards.  Lesson learned.

Holiday Sewing

The sewing bug big mid November and my beloved little featherweight was busy.  I’m so a rookie—still.  Which is why I’m purposely posting small, slightly blurry, wide angle shots of my projects. So there.  All told I managed to finish ties  for the boys  for the amazing Christmas pictures that I never actually had taken; holiday skirts  for the girls; felt toys for church; and a few repurposing projects that I’m going to finish … any day month now.  Which is perfect because reindeer have been omitted from St. Patrick’s Day celebrations for way too long.

He’s worn the goggles everywhere this month.  Grocery shopping? check.  School? check.  Doctor’s office? check.

I’m hoping soft church toys will work better for Sacrament.  That way the only crazy disruptive noise will be from the kids fighting over them and not from the loud, plastic pieces and fighting over toys.  See.  Much better.

Snow, a bit more, and still more … snow.

It’s been freezing, biting, lousy cold for the last thousand years several weeks.  The kids have had lots of fun tromping through it on the way to the truck, and back in from the truck, and back out to the truck, and back inside.  Seriously.  I think the kids forget about snow—completely—during naps and then rediscover the coolest thing ever on the way to and from school.  Going from our front door to the truck takes several minutes because of the snow wonder.  The magic wore off sometime after  the umpteenth time of reminding the kids that: snow + no gloves = NUMB hands! And you wouldn’t have numb hands every stinkin’ day if you’d stop leaving your gazillion pairs of gloves in the playroomoutsideunderthecouchinthetruckatschool blah, blah….

Still, Creepy looked pretty cute the other day as he hopped out of the truck and started building a snow blob man.  I remembered thinking that this moment couldn’t last more than a minute. tops.  Forty-eight seconds to be exact.  That’s when the hysterical “Mom …. ouch …  hand!!” crying started.

Yeah... it's pretty cold here too. I love the reindeer at St. Patrick's day bit, I am usually running about that late also. And the glove thing... I totally get it! My kids lose them all the time! Gavin tossed one in Walmart today, I looked everywhere-- it was soooo gone!

Love your blog, you're hilarious!
